India is poised to make a significant mark at the WorldSkills 2024 competition in Lyon, France, with a contingent of 60 participants ready to compete in 61 skill categories against contenders from 70 countries. This global event, often dubbed the “Olympics of Skills,” will see Indian competitors demonstrate their expertise across sectors including construction, manufacturing, IT, and creative arts.
The selected team, having undergone rigorous training under the guidance of 52 WorldSkills experts and with the support of over 100 industry and academic partners, will arrive in New Delhi on 1st September. Their final preparations will include yoga sessions, psychological evaluations, and nutritional guidance to ensure they are in peak condition. The send-off ceremony, scheduled for 3rd September at Kaushal Bhawan, will be graced by Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Education. India’s participation at the WorldSkills 2024 reflects a growing commitment to excellence in vocational skills. In the 2022 edition, India achieved its highest level of participation, securing 13 Medallions of Excellence, including two silver and three bronze medals, and ranked 11th overall.
In Guwahati, local markets are buzzing with excitement as the city anticipates increased engagement in vocational training and skill development, inspired by the national team’s forthcoming participation. The event is expected to boost local interest and investment in skill development programs, enhancing job prospects and industry standards in the region. The Indian team will depart for Lyon on 6th September, marking the culmination of an extensive preparation process that began with over 2.5 lakh registrations at the IndiaSkills Nationals 2024. This initiative, spearheaded by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), aims to showcase and nurture exceptional talent in vocational fields.
