India-Afghanistan T20Is May Get New Dates, ACB Seeks Schedule Change

The schedule of the upcoming three-match T20I series between India and Afghanistan could undergo a change. Discussions are reportedly taking place between the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), although no official decision has been made yet.The ACB has proposed bringing the series forward by a few days. One of the suggested dates is September 14, which falls on Ganesh Chaturthi. The original schedule has the three matches set to be played on September 13, 15 and 17.According to reports, the BCCI has received a request to reschedule the matches to September 11, 13 and 14. The ACB is understood to have considered the cultural events in India while making the proposal and has also reportedly cited requests from its stakeholders.The Afghanistan board believes that playing a match during the festival period could help attract more viewers and increase attendance at the stadium. All three games are scheduled to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.The proposed series is significant as Afghanistan will host India in a bilateral series for the first time, although the matches will be played in India. There is reportedly some optimism within the ACB that the BCCI could agree to the proposed changes.India are expected to have a free window between the end of their Sri Lanka Test series on August 27 and the start of the Asian Games on September 24. The proposed Bangladesh series also appears unlikely to take place during this period.The BCCI and ACB have reportedly been contacted regarding the possible change in dates, while the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has said it currently has no information about any revised schedule.India and Afghanistan last met in June for a Test and three-match ODI series. The upcoming T20I series will complete their bilateral contests across all three formats.
