In an effort to strengthen its grassroots election network, the Indian National Congress organised a training camp for Booth Level Agents (BLAs) covering all 222 booth committees under the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency in Assam. The training programme was held on February 5 at the Margherita Congress Bhawan and was attended by a large number of party workers, booth representatives, and local leaders. The programme was organised by the Margherita Block Congress Committee with the aim of preparing party workers for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections. Booth Level Agents play a key role during elections, as they work at the polling booth level to coordinate with voters, ensure smooth communication between the party and local residents, and assist in campaign-related activities. Party leaders said that strengthening the booth-level structure is essential for improving grassroots outreach and building stronger connections with voters.
Several senior leaders and party functionaries were present at the training camp. Among those who attended were Margherita Block Congress Committee President Chitra Borgohain, General Secretary Alfaz Ahmed, Deepjyoti Taye, Vice President Toufik Khan, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee Social Media Co-Chairman Prateek Bordoloi, and representatives from the Mahila Congress and other frontal organisations of the party. Their presence, party leaders said, reflected the importance being given to organisational strengthening at the constituency level. The training session was conducted by Binod Verma, Master Trainer of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), along with Coordinator Toufik Khan, who is also the Vice President of the Margherita Block Congress Committee. Booth Level Agents from all 222 booth committees, along with Mandal presidents, block committee members, and several aspiring candidates from the constituency, participated in the programme.During the training camp, participants were provided with detailed guidance on how to carry out their responsibilities effectively at the booth level. Sessions focused on voter awareness activities, coordination among local party workers, communication with voters, and maintaining proper records related to electoral processes. Trainers explained the importance of organised teamwork and regular interaction with local residents so that the party’s campaign messages can reach voters more effectively.
Speaking on the occasion, AICC Master Trainer Binod Verma said that the main objective of the camp was to equip Booth Level Agents and party workers with the necessary knowledge and practical skills required for strong grassroots-level work. He emphasised that booth-level organisation plays a crucial role in elections, as it is the point where the party directly interacts with voters. According to him, proper training helps workers understand their responsibilities clearly and improves coordination during the election period.Party leaders also noted that the enthusiastic participation of booth representatives showed the seriousness of local workers in preparing for the upcoming Assembly elections. They said that many participants attended the programme with dedication and actively took part in discussions and practical sessions. Leaders added that such training programmes would continue in different parts of the constituency to ensure that workers remain fully prepared in the months leading up to the elections.Local Congress leaders said that the focus of the training was not only on election-day duties but also on long-term engagement with voters. Workers were encouraged to maintain regular contact with people in their areas, understand local issues, and help convey those concerns to the party leadership. According to organisers, this approach will help the party build stronger relationships with communities and improve coordination between different levels of the organisation. The training camp also provided an opportunity for party workers from different booths to interact with each other and share their experiences. Leaders said such interactions help in building teamwork and allow workers to learn from one another’s experiences at the ground level. They added that strengthening organisational unity is one of the key objectives of such programmes.
