India is having limited resources of petroleum products and more than 76% of demand of petroleum products is met through imports. This leads to excess pressure on our import bill and erosion of foreign reserves. Keeping in view this fact, Government of India along with Oil companies and PCRA observe SAKSHAM (Sanrakshan Kshamata Mahotshov)- Campaign on Oil & Gas Conservation every year.
The tagline of SAKSHAM-2020 is “Indhan Adhik na Khapayein, Aso Paryavaran Bachayein”.
The Saksham -2020 i.e. Oil and Gas Conservation awareness programme in West Bengal was formally inaugurated at Science City Auditorium, Kolkata by Sh Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, august presence of Shri A.K.Gupta, representing State Level Coordinator(SLC) for West Bengal and CGM(O), Indian Oil, West Bengal State Office and Sh A.C.Ghosh, Regional Level Coordinator (RLC) for Oil Industry and CGM(HR), Indian Oil, Eastern Region in presence of senior officials and Dealers from Oil Marketing Companies.
Speaking at the inaugural program Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal highlighted the issue of following discipline on road and conservation of petroleum products and hazards associated with their improper use and wastage.
The large gathering included more than 400 school students & officials from various OMCs.
The planned activities for SAKSHAM-2020 include (i) Bringing awareness about health hazards due to use of Bio Mass and appeal to stop use of Bio Mass and encourage use of Greener Fuels like LPG in rural areas (ii) Drive to make villages and towns Smoke Free (iii) Training of Drivers of commercial vehicles (Auto, Taxi & Trucks) for conserving diesel/CNG which will also help in reduction of the Green House Gases and (iv) Motivation of students and youth for promoting Oil and Gas conservation and their contribution towards Clean and Green Environment. This year, 19th January 2019 will be celebrated as Bicycle Day in the country. Cycle Rallies and walkathons on Oil Conservation will be organized by Oil Industry.
