Inaugural Mumbai–Guwahati Flight Lands at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport

Akasa Air has became the first airline to start operations from the newly built terminal at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, marking an important step in the airport’s expansion. According to an official release, the airline operated its first flight from the new terminal on February 22, 2026. The flight departed from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai at 1:40 pm and landed in Guwahati at 4:45 pm. The return flight left Guwahati at 5:20 pm and reached Mumbai at 9:10 pm. To mark the beginning of operations, a lamp-lighting ceremony was held at the airport.

The event was attended by Bhavin Joshi, Co-Founder and Senior Vice President – Strategy of Akasa Air, along with senior airport officials. A cake-cutting ceremony was also organised and a special boarding pass was presented to the first passenger of the inaugural flight. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, were present on the occasion.The new terminal has been developed by Guwahati International Airport Limited and is operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited. Officials said the upgraded facility will provide better passenger amenities and smoother travel experience. Akasa Air said operating from the modern terminal will help it strengthen connectivity in the Northeast.

Since its launch in August 2022, the airline has served more than 24 million passengers. It currently operates to 26 domestic and six international destinations. The airline runs a fleet of 34 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and has placed an order for 226 more aircraft. It said the aircraft are fuel-efficient and designed to reduce emissions and noise.
