In Sipajhar, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma launches seed capital distribution under MMUA

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, initiated the distribution of Rs 10,000 seed capital checks to 39,665 qualified female members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the Darrang district’s Sipajhar Legislative Assembly Constituency. The program is a component of the flagship Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan (MMUA), which aims to empower rural women entrepreneurs and assist them in earning at least Rs 1 lakh annually. The Darrang district administration arranged a ceremonial distribution event in Ramgaon village in Sipajhar.

Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia, Sipajhar lawmaker Dr. Paramananda Rajbongshi, District Commissioner Parag Kumar Kakaty, Co-District Commissioner Papori Das, and other dignitaries were among the important guests. Speaking to the crowd, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma emphasized that of the 62 LACs in the state where distributions had been finished thus far, Sipajhar had the most beneficiaries. He continued by saying that the MMUA aims to cover all qualified beneficiaries by February 10 and targets between 32 and 40 lakh women SHG members countrywide.

In a later interview with the media, Dr. Sarma described the BJP’s methodical approach to choosing candidates for the 2026 Assam Assembly election, which included grassroots surveys, party worker talks, and evaluations of the performance of current MLAs. He acknowledged that seat-sharing negotiations with ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) are still underway, pointing out that a few rounds of talks have already taken place but that a final decision is still awaited. The Chief Minister said that the Congress party’s status in Assam would deteriorate even worse than its previous performance in Bihar when asked about the party’s chances in the polls.
