In Howrah, BC Jindal Foundation’s Skill Centre strengthens employability of youth and women through industry-relevant training

BC Jindal Foundation has launched a major skill development push in Howrah to enhance employability among youth and women through industry-relevant vocational training. The initiative is being implemented through the “BC Jindal Skill Centre” at Belur and aims to train over 1,000 candidates annually from marginalized communities.

The foundation, the social arm of BC Jindal Group, said the programme will cover nine vocational trades across five sectors; healthcare, hospitality, apparel, IT and industrial technology. Courses include Industrial Electrician, Multi Skill Technician, Sewing Machine Operator, Domestic Data Entry Operator, Child Caretaker, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage Services, Phlebotomy Technician and General Duty Assistant. The centre has set a target of ensuring more than 70% placement across batches while promoting women’s participation. A spokesperson said the initiative aims to bridge the skill gap through structured short-term training and placement support, contributing to socio-economic growth and long-term self-reliance.

In Howrah, the initiative is expected to strengthen the local workforce pipeline. With growing demand in small industries, healthcare units and service establishments across the district, industry-aligned training could support regional businesses while boosting household incomes. The foundation has earmarked Rs 40 crore for CSR projects in FY26 across states including West Bengal, Delhi, Haryana and Maharashtra.
