In his sincere homage to Zubeen Garg, Rahul Gandhi likens him to the grace and strength of Kanchenjunga

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi today visited Assam to pay an emotional tribute to the late singer Zubeen Garg, who passed away recently under tragic circumstances in Singapore. Arriving at Borjhar Airport at around 1:30 PM, Rahul Gandhi immediately proceeded to Sonapur to honor the legendary singer at his cremation site in Komarkuchi. During the memorial ceremony, Rahul Gandhi offered floral tributes and presented a traditional Assamese gamosa, a mark of respect in the state. In a touching gesture, he also planted a Nahor tree near the site, paying homage to one of Zubeen Garg’s favorite trees. The ceremony saw the presence of Assam Pradesh Congress President and MP Gaurav Gogoi, opposition leader Debabrata Saikia, Congress Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh, and thousands of citizens who had gathered to express their grief and respect.

After the memorial, Rahul Gandhi visited Zubeen Garg’s residence in Kahilipara, meeting the singer’s wife Garima Garg and other family members. Speaking to the media, he reflected on Zubeen Garg’s extraordinary life and character. Recalling his own experience in Sikkim as a 17-year-old during a mountaineering course, Rahul Gandhi drew a parallel between the singer and Mount Kanchenjunga, noting that both symbolized honesty, transparency, strength, and beauty. “Zubeen Garg embodied these qualities through his work, humility, and life,” he said. He further remarked, “You can see the worth of a person in their house. I just came from Zubeen ji’s house. He had wealth, success, and humility. Assam should be extremely proud of him. His family’s support gave Zubeen a voice not just for the state, but for the entire country.”

Rahul Gandhi expressed deep sorrow over Zubeen Garg’s death, calling it a tragedy felt across Assam. “The family only said one thing to me—they have lost their Zubeen. All they want is the truth to be clear. The people of Assam, who loved him and whose lives he changed, want closure,” he said. He urged for a fast and transparent investigation into the circumstances of Zubeen Garg’s death in Singapore. “I and the Congress party are here to support the family in every possible way. Losing someone so important and loved is a painful moment for everyone. What happened in Singapore, everybody in Assam should know. The sooner it happens, the better,” Rahul Gandhi said, emphasizing the need for justice while keeping Zubeen Garg’s legacy alive.
