IMD Warns of Thunderstorms and Hail Across Bengal on March 20–21

The India Meteorological Department has forecast widespread thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across West Bengal on March 20 and 21, driven by favorable weather conditions and moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD, several districts are likely to experience unstable weather during this period, with hailstorms expected in parts of the state. Western districts such as Bankura, Purulia, and Paschim Bardhaman may witness hailstorms on March 20. In North Bengal, districts including Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri are likely to experience similar conditions on March 21.
The weather office also predicted light to moderate rainfall across multiple districts from Wednesday through March 23, which may bring temporary relief from rising temperatures but could disrupt daily activities.
Temperature variations have already been observed across the state. Darjeeling recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 7.6°C on Wednesday morning, while Kolkata registered a minimum of 24.2°C, with a partly cloudy sky expected to persist till Thursday morning.
The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious, especially during thunderstorms, as strong winds and lightning could pose risks to life and property. Authorities are also monitoring the situation closely, particularly in districts prone to sudden weather changes.
The forecast highlights a brief spell of volatile weather conditions across Bengal, with citizens urged to stay updated and take necessary precautions during the period.
