The Indian Media Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (IMCAB) has elected a new leadership team for a two-year term, with Shahin Chowdhury of Tripura Express becoming President and Masum Billah of Dainik Jugasankha and Eastern Chronicle taking charge as General Secretary.
The new committee was announced on Friday night during IMCAB Night and the biennial general meeting at Hotel Westin in the capital. IMCAB represents various Indian media outlets operating in Bangladesh, making its leadership structure significant for coordination and representation of correspondents working across the two countries.
The committee includes Vice-President Rajib Khan (TV9), Joint General Secretary Mir Afroz Zaman (UNI), Treasurer Abu Ali (Amar Asom), and Organizing Secretary Aminul Haque Bhuiyan (Tripura Darpan). Executive members are Basudev Dhar (Dainik Statesman), Rafiqul Islam Sabuj (Dainik Desher Katha), Nirmal Chakraborty (Face News), Zakir Hossain (Dainik Spandan), and Monir Hossain (Tripura Times).
The election was scheduled for September 5, with August 29 as the nomination deadline. All candidates were elected unopposed after only one nomination was filed for each post. Mynul Hasan Sohel, General Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), served as convener of the election conducting committee.
The IMCAB Night was chaired by outgoing president Kuddus Afrad, correspondent of Dainik Ei Samay. Gokul V.K., Ayub Bhuiyan, Somnath Dey, Farid Hossain, Anisur Rahman and Dwip Azad also attended, while the event concluded with a cultural programme.
