IIT Bombay launches five-month certificate programme in Generative AI

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has announced the launch of a Certificate in Generative AI, aimed at equipping professionals with hands-on skills to design and deploy real-world GenAI applications. The five-month, online certificate programme will be offered by the Technocraft Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence in collaboration with Great Learning as the edtech partner, with registrations now open for the 2026 intake. Designed and delivered by IIT Bombay faculty, the programme follows a practical, LLM-first approach across five modules. It covers fundamentals of artificial intelligence, large language models, prompt engineering, model adaptation using proprietary data, and the development of copilots and multi-step AI workflows. The course culminates with deployment, scalability, and security of GenAI solutions through industry-aligned projects.

Speaking on the initiative, Prof. Manjesh K. Hanawal said Generative AI represents a major technological shift, stressing the need for professionals to understand not just how to use AI tools but how to design and deploy reliable GenAI systems responsibly.

Mohan Lakhamraju, Founder and CEO of Great Learning, said the programme helps professionals move beyond experimentation to meaningful real-world application of GenAI. In Kolkata, the programme is expected to find strong interest among IT professionals, analytics firms, and startups in the city, as demand grows for AI-driven automation, decision-making tools, and enterprise GenAI solutions across sectors. The certificate is open to graduates from any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA.
