ICICI Bank and Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) have jointly laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art cancer care block at the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCHRC) in Visakhapatnam. With an investment of over ₹550 crore, the upcoming ICICI Foundation Block for Child and Blood Cancer will significantly boost specialised healthcare capacity in eastern India.
Spanning nearly 3.9 lakh sq ft, the eight-storey facility will house 215+ beds and is projected to treat over 3,000 patients annually upon completion in 2027. The project is part of ICICI Bank’s expanded ₹1,800 crore commitment to TMC, which includes similar cancer care infrastructure in Navi Mumbai and New Chandigarh. The facility will offer cutting-edge treatments including CAR-T cell therapy, bone marrow transplants, and advanced radiation therapies. It will also house 14 ICUs, 5 OTs, 3 LINACs, and dedicated research labs.
The announcement has drawn attention from the medical and financial sectors. Healthcare investors and consultants noted this move could inspire similar partnerships in the Northeast, where access to advanced cancer care remains limited. The market views this as a model for potential replication, aligning healthcare CSR with regional needs. Mr. Pradeep Kumar Sinha, Chairman of ICICI Bank, and TMC officials expressed hope that this collaboration will advance cancer care accessibility across the eastern corridor.
