IBM has announced IBM watsonx, a new AI and data platform

IBM has unveiled a new geospatial foundation model to enable first steps towards reducing climate change. The model, part of IBM’s watsonx.ai geospatial offering, is planned to be available in preview to IBM clients through IBM Environmental Intelligence Suite (EIS) during the second half of this year. It can be used to estimate climate-related risks, value and monitor forests for carbon-offset programs, and develop predictive models to help enterprises create strategies to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

Authored by: Christina Shim, Vice President and Global Head of Product Management & Strategy, IBM Sustainability Software; and Sriram Raghavan, Vice President, IBM Research AI. IBM is releasing a preview version of the base geospatial foundation model and suite of fine-tuned models, running on Watsonx.ai, through IBM EIS.

This release includes APIs for inference and fine-tuned models, as well as sample solutions that apply these models, create triggers, and leverage work queues. IBM is also involved in additional projects around geospatial mapping, working with Esri and other companies to help organizations uncover a richer spatial context of a business’s assets and operations.
