Hyundai Motor and TVS Motor Formalize Partnership to Drive Electric Three-Wheeler Commercialization for India’s Last-Mile Mobility

Hyundai Motor Company and TVS Motor Company have signed a Joint Development Agreement (JDA) to develop and commercialise electric three-wheelers (E3Ws) tailored for India’s last-mile mobility needs. The move follows the successful showcase of the concept at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. Under the pact, Hyundai will lead design and co-development, leveraging its R&D capabilities, advanced mobility technologies and human-centric design approach. TVS Motor will contribute its electric three-wheeler platform, engineering expertise and deep understanding of Indian customers, while also leading local sales and manufacturing for domestic demand and exports.

Senior Vice President Joongsun Ko said the collaboration aims to expand access to safe and sustainable mobility across India. TVS Motor’s President Sharad Mishra noted that the partnership would deliver purpose-built solutions and set new benchmarks in quality, technology and customer experience. The E3W will feature adaptive ground clearance, enhanced safety systems, ergonomic design and thermal management suited for Indian conditions. The companies also plan to localise component manufacturing to strengthen the supply chain, reduce costs and ensure faster after-sales support.

In Guwahati, one of Northeast India’s key commercial hubs, the proposed electric three-wheelers are expected to see strong demand in both passenger transport and goods delivery segments. With rising fuel costs and frequent urban congestion, fleet operators and small businesses in the Guwahati market are increasingly shifting towards electric mobility solutions. Industry observers say the Hyundai–TVS partnership could accelerate EV adoption in the city by offering cost-efficient, locally adapted vehicles suited to challenging road and weather conditions.
