Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) celebrated the fifth anniversary of its Safety Driving Education Centre (SDEC) in Guwahati, reaffirming its commitment to promoting safer road habits across the country. The event was attended by District Transport Officer Gautam Das and other dignitaries, who acknowledged the centre’s role in strengthening awareness of safe riding practices. Established in February 2021 in association with the Assam Transport Department, the Guwahati SDEC has trained more than 1,00,000 individuals, including school students, college youth and working professionals, through classroom sessions and hands-on riding modules. The anniversary programme included a ceremonial cake-cutting and special safety riding activities for driving licence applicants aimed at enhancing real-world road awareness.
HMSI said the centre forms part of its larger CSR commitment aligned with the company’s global vision of achieving zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050 and supporting India’s target of reducing road deaths by half by 2030. Nationwide, the company’s road safety initiatives have already reached over 10 million people through training parks, SDECs and digital learning platforms such as the newly launched “E-Gurukul”.
In Guwahati, the initiative is expected to positively influence the city’s rapidly expanding two-wheeler segment by encouraging responsible riding behaviour among new buyers and delivery riders, while also strengthening consumer trust in manufacturers actively investing in road safety awareness and community training programmes.
