Himanta Sarma turns 56, celebrates with BJP workers

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma celebrated his 56th birthday in Guwahati on Friday, surrounded by a large group of supporters, well-wishers, and party workers at his residence. The gathering included ministers, legislators, and BJP workers who took the opportunity to extend their greetings and admiration for his leadership.

Since taking office in 2021, Sarma has been at the helm of several significant reforms in Assam. His government has led the controversial closure of state-run madrassas, a move aimed at aligning the state’s education system with national academic standards by incorporating modern curricula. In addition to education reforms, Sarma has been a strong advocate in the fight against child marriage, overseeing widespread crackdowns and launching public awareness campaigns to eradicate the practice from society.

Another key initiative under Sarma’s leadership has been the “War on Drugs” campaign, which has intensified operations against drug trafficking and organized crime. Law enforcement agencies, operating under his guidance, have successfully seized large quantities of narcotics, dismantled drug networks, and made significant arrests in a bid to curb illegal activities in the state. During his birthday celebrations, Sarma expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming wishes and reaffirmed his commitment to taking Assam forward. “I am deeply touched by the love and support of the people,” he said. “I remain dedicated to the progress of Assam through governance reforms, economic development, and social welfare.”
