Himanta Sarma inaugurates major infrastructure projects in Jorhat

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday launched three major infrastructure projects in Jorhat, with a combined investment of ₹110.75 crore. The newly inaugurated projects include a state-of-the-art Convention Centre, a two-lane railway flyover, and an Automated Testing Station, aimed at enhancing public amenities and regional connectivity.

The Chief Minister inaugurated the Chinnamara Convention Centre, constructed at a cost of ₹19.98 crore. Spanning 3,118 square meters, the facility can accommodate 120 people and is expected to serve as a hub for conferences and cultural events in Upper Assam.

A two-lane railway flyover, built at an expenditure of ₹78.27 crore, was also opened. The 581.20-metre-long structure connects Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH) to Mission Hospital, providing seamless movement and reducing congestion. The project was completed in collaboration with the Northeast Frontier Railway and the Assam state government.

Additionally, Sarma inaugurated an Automated Testing Station (ATS), established with an investment of ₹12.5 crore. The facility will modernize vehicle fitness testing, replacing traditional manual inspections with automated systems. This initiative will benefit Jorhat, Golaghat, and Sivasagar districts, ensuring better compliance with vehicle safety standards.

Speaking at the event, CM Sarma underscored the state’s rapid development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “Over the past decade, Assam has witnessed unprecedented progress. The state and central governments have been working tirelessly to improve infrastructure and uplift the lives of citizens,” he said.

He also highlighted the government’s efforts in strengthening the rural economy. “Unlike previous administrations, we are prioritizing the welfare of the poor and marginalized. This approach has significantly boosted Assam’s overall economic growth,” he added.
