With the Assembly elections drawing near, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed strong confidence in the prospects of the BJP-led NDA alliance, saying that women and young voters from Gen Z are playing a key role in shaping the electoral mood across the state. Speaking on March 27, Sarma said that there is visible energy in election meetings and rallies, especially among women and first-time or young voters. According to him, this growing participation is not limited to a few areas but can be seen widely during campaign events. “You will find women at public meetings and youth at rallies. There is tremendous enthusiasm among them. This election is being fought by Gen Z and women, and we are going to see a great result,” the Chief Minister said. Sarma referred to his recent campaign visits to Dhakuakhana and Lakhimpur, where he observed what he described as a clear shift in voter behaviour.
He said that several constituencies which were earlier considered closely contested are now turning into strongholds for the ruling alliance. He described such seats as “A+ seats,” indicating a high level of confidence for the BJP and its allies. The Chief Minister credited this change to the work done by the government over the past few years. He said that development initiatives and welfare measures have helped build trust among voters. He also highlighted the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that policies and schemes at the national level have had a direct impact on people in Assam. Sarma further said that the BJP, along with its alliance partners — Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) — is entering the election with confidence. He stated that the alliance is expecting a clear and decisive mandate from the people. “People are excited, and we are ready for the elections. We are confident of a thumping majority,” he said. At the same time, the Chief Minister downplayed the role of the opposition, including the Indian National Congress.
He suggested that responding to opposition statements would only give them unnecessary attention during the campaign period. Sarma also informed that the alliance’s vision document will be released soon. He said that the document will present the roadmap for governance and development plans if the alliance returns to power.” The upcoming Assembly elections in Assam will cover all 126 constituencies. Polling is scheduled to take place on April 9, while the counting of votes will be held on May 4. With campaigning gaining pace, political activity has increased across the state. Leaders from different parties are holding rallies and public meetings, but the BJP leadership believes that the strong participation of women and young voters could play a decisive role in the final outcome.
