Himanta Biswa Sarma Accuses Indian National Congress of Foreign Links, Fake Proof

Escalating political tensions in Assam, Gaurav Gogoi, the State Congress president, has launched a fierce counterattack against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of misleading the public and vowing to uncover alleged irregularities associated with Sarma’s family assets and overseas business interests. In response to Sarma’s recent statements, Gogoi claimed he would expose what he termed “falsehoods” regarding the Chief Minister’s family wealth, questioning their ownership of a “Gold Card” in Dubai and property there, as well as the disclosure of such assets in Sarma’s election affidavit. He warned that undisclosed assets could lead to disqualification under election laws and called for investigations by central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate. Gogoi further stated that a Congress-led government would undertake strict legal actions against what he calls “illegal properties and businesses” linked to Sarma’s family and made broad allegations of connections to cow smuggling and the coal mafia, although no public evidence was provided. This exchange intensifies the ongoing political discourse between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress in Assam, with both parties accusing each other of financial misconduct, foreign ties, and potential legal breaches ahead of the elections.
