Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is implementing the ongoing project ‘Economic Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs and Start-ups by Women (Her&Now)’ in India, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and in partnership with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India. In a bid to identify and capitalize on the key sectors driving the women-led microenterprises in various geographical areas of India, and the top interventions that may be introduced to support and catalyse the ecosystem in these sectors and regions, GIZ’s Project Her&Now has come out with a detailed report titled “Women-led Micro Entrepreneurship: An Analysis of Value Chains and Opportunities”.
Based on the findings of the report, it has been observed that there are 4 emerging sectors for women entrepreneurship in the North East Region (NER) – namely Food Processing, Floriculture, Handloom & Handicrafts and Tourism & Travels. Project Her&Now, with the local implementing partner, Dhriiti-The Courage Within, has supported over 200 women entrepreneurs in the region through its flagship Entrepreneurship Support Programme.
Commissioned by GIZ, the research study, for preparing the above-mentioned report, was carried out by Dhriiti-The Courage Within. The study delves into a plethora of avenues and opportunities for endorsing and furthering women entrepreneurship in three regions of the country, the North-East Region (NER), Rajasthan and Telangana.
