In severe cases or delayed diagnosis, poor heart health induced due to COVID-19 may become a probable cause for Sudden Cardiac Arrest in the future. While millions of patients are recovering from COVID-19, the heart patients amongst them need to be extra careful.
Dr Rituparna Baruah, Interventional Cardiologist at Apollo Hospitals, Guwahati, strongly recommended all heart patients who tested positive with the virus to seek heart check-ups post-recovery to rule out or treat any side-effects that may have been caused by the virus. Dr Baruah said, heart patients who have tested positive need to be cautious as COVID-19 has been observed to cause severe symptoms and worse outcomes in heart patients or individuals with cardiovascular disease. A complete diagnosis post COVID-19 recovery is extremely advisable to help tackle fatalities like Heart Failure or Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
“Since outdoor physical activity is limited, ensure some form of indoor exercise to keep yourself fit. A prolonged sedentary lifestyle is an invitation to various ailments. Eat a balanced and nutritious diet to build up your immunity. Keep your stress and anxiety levels low. Monitor your weight, sugar, blood pressure and cholestrol levels. A healthy heart and body are a result of healthy lifestyle choices, which have become the need of the hour for everyone”, Dr Baruah added.
