Hagrama Mohilary takes office as the head of BTC, BPF promises new era of development in Bodoland

Hagrama Mohilary, president of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), was sworn in as the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) on Sunday, marking a decisive return to power for the party in Assam’s Bodoland Territorial Region. The ceremony, held at the Bodoland Secretariat Field in Kokrajhar district, took place amid persistent rainfall, yet drew a large gathering of political leaders, dignitaries, and local citizens.

Former minister Rihon Daimary took oath as the Deputy CEM during the same event, completing the top leadership of the autonomous council. The BPF’s commanding victory in the recent BTC elections saw the party secure 28 of the 40 council seats, reclaiming control over the autonomous body that governs Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri districts.

The swearing-in ceremony was graced by Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, several state cabinet ministers, and Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Manikya Debbarma from Tripura, highlighting the political significance of the event for both regional and state-level politics.

Addressing the gathering, Mohilary emphasized his commitment to inclusive governance and accelerated development across the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD). He underscored priorities such as improving infrastructure, strengthening education and healthcare, and creating employment opportunities for the youth. Leaders present at the ceremony lauded the BPF’s electoral mandate and expressed hope for stable governance and holistic development in the region.
