According to a worldwide travel agency’s rating list, Guwahati has reportedly emerged as the fastest-growing foreign travel destination in India. Guwahati’s blend of natural beauty, cultural legacy, and contemporary conveniences has garnered international attention making travellers flock the Northeastern state in 2024. As per reports, improved air and road connectivity have also contributed to the city’s increased popularity, as have tourist attractions including Kaziranga National Park, Brahmaputra river cruises, and neighboring animal sanctuaries. According to reports, the Hornbill Festival, Ziro Music Festival, and Shillong’s Cherry Blossom Festival have all contributed to the Northeast’s consistent tourism growth. Onal location among Indian tourists has been further enhanced by well-known concerts.
High-profile concerts have further boosted the region’s profile, with Guwahati recently hosting Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh, while Shillong saw a concert performed by Bryan Adams in 2024. Additionally, British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has been scheduled to perform in Meghalaya’s capital on February 12. The ranking, based on accommodation booking trends over the past two years, also highlighted Puri as the top trending domestic destination and Langkawi, Malaysia, as the most popular international spot among Indian travellers.
