Guwahati Hosts SBI Green Marathon Season 6, Champions Sustainability Through Sport

The SBI Green Marathon Season 6 made a spirited stop in Guwahati on Sunday, drawing more than 4,000 participants to the Sarusajai Sports Complex in a powerful display of fitness and environmental commitment. After successful runs across Lucknow, Chandigarh, Bhopal, and Visakhapatnam, the event brought its signature message — Run for a Greener India — to the heart of Assam.

Set against the rolling hills and the serene Brahmaputra, Guwahati offered an ideal backdrop for the marathon’s sustainability-focused mission. Fitness enthusiasts, families, students, and contingents from the Assam Police, para-military forces and the Armed Forces joined the event, underscoring the city’s growing dedication to eco-conscious living and community well-being.

The run was flagged off by key dignitaries including Shri Prabhas Bose, Chief General Manager, SBI Guwahati Circle; Shri Safal Tripathi, General Manager, Network 1; Shri Amaresh Kr Jha, General Manager, Network 2; and Shri B. Maharana, MD, NEEPCO. Their presence reinforced SBI’s commitment to leading sustainability initiatives across India. True to its green ethos, the marathon integrated eco-friendly practices throughout the event. Runners received organic T-shirts, plantable BIBs, and reusable cloth goodie bags, promoting a zero-waste experience. Participants were also provided with black alkaline water to support hydration and recovery. Waste management partner Skrap oversaw segregation, recycling, and responsible disposal of event waste, with a detailed sustainability report expected soon.

The morning’s atmosphere was enlivened by Mirchi RJ Gaurab and RJ Susmita, whose commentary and crowd engagement kept the energy high. Participants competed across three categories — 5K, 10K, and the AIMS-certified 21K half marathon — drawing seasoned runners, fitness clubs, defence personnel, students, and first-time marathoners. The route in and around the Sarusajai Sports Complex offered open stretches and the city’s trademark morning calm, reflecting Guwahati’s balance of nature and urban vitality. With its successful sixth edition in the city, the marathon strengthened Guwahati’s growing reputation for promoting sustainability, fitness, and community participation. As the season advances on its 17-city tour, SBI continues to encourage citizens across India to take small but significant steps towards a cleaner, greener future.

Because every run counts — for a Greener India.
