In just one month, the GIAL domestic cargo terminal at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati achieved a significant milestone by processing a record 952 metric tons (MT) of cargo. With a 13.2% total increase in cargo throughput, this achievement for the month of July surpasses the previous all-time high of 841 MT. The main driver of this expansion has been a significant 15.26% increase in incoming cargo volumes, with Bengaluru and Delhi contributing the most.
The terminal’s improved operating efficiency and increasing dependability as a logistics center in Northeast India are highlighted by the notable rise in incoming cargo. On the outgoing side, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai (BOM), Kolkata (CCU), and Imphal (IMF) and Agartala (IXA) were the top-performing sectors. The airport’s essential importance in facilitating trade from the region to major metropolitan locations around the country was highlighted by the 5.24% growth in outbound cargo.
