Governor of Odisha, Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, inaugurated the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) International Academy at the Skill Development Institute (SDI), Bhubaneswar, marking a significant step toward empowering youth with global skills. The Governor also flagged off the ‘Skill on Wheel’ mobile training unit, aimed at delivering skill development to rural and remote areas across Odisha.
This new academy, the first of its kind in Bhubaneswar, will offer comprehensive foreign language training and pre-departure support, preparing young Indians for international job markets. The ‘Skill on Wheel’ initiative seeks to democratize access to modern skill training by bringing industry-aligned programs directly to learners’ doorsteps across the state. Dr. Kambhampati praised the Skill India Mission and SDI Bhubaneswar, highlighting the state-of-the-art campus developed at a cost of Rs. 500 crore over 47 acres near Barunei Hill. The Governor expressed hope that SDI Bhubaneswar would continue to grow as a national center of excellence.
In Guwahati, this initiative is expected to influence the skill ecosystem in Northeast India positively. With Guwahati emerging as a regional educational hub, similar training models and mobile skill units could help address unemployment and skill gaps among youth in Assam and neighbouring states, enhancing their chances for both local and international employment. The event was also attended by Odisha’s Minister of State for Industries, Shri Sampad Chandra Swain, senior NSDC officials, and other dignitaries, underlining the government’s commitment to making Odisha a skill development hub in Eastern India.
