Godrej launches India’s first multi Ion battery technology for electric forklifts

Godrej Enterprises Group has introduced India’s first Multi Ion battery technology for electric forklifts, aiming to boost sustainability and efficiency in the country’s rapidly expanding logistics and warehousing sectors. The technology was launched by the group’s Material Handling Equipment (MHE) business on May 14 in Mumbai. The company said the new battery technology has been designed to reduce total cost of ownership by 25 per cent while ensuring higher uptime and cleaner industrial operations. The battery is built to last for the entire operational life of the forklift, addressing the growing demand for reliable and energy-efficient solutions in manufacturing, warehousing and supply chain operations.

According to the company, India’s industrial and warehousing market recorded more than 11 million square feet of leasing across the top eight cities during the first quarter of 2026, registering double-digit year-on-year growth driven by e-commerce, third-party logistics and manufacturing sectors. Developed in collaboration with an Indian deep-tech battery innovator, the Multi Ion battery offers up to 5,000 life cycles, nearly 60 per cent higher than conventional lithium-ion batteries. The technology also supports fast and opportunity charging, requires zero maintenance and can operate in temperatures above 45 degrees Celsius.

Anil Lingayat, Business Head, Material Handling Equipment at Godrej Enterprises Group, said the technology would help supply chains achieve higher reliability, lower operating costs and cleaner operations. In Guwahati, logistics operators and warehouse owners in Assam and the Northeast are increasingly investing in modern material handling systems due to the region’s growing trade and e-commerce activities. Industry observers believe advanced battery-powered forklifts could see rising demand in Guwahati’s warehousing hubs as businesses focus on reducing fuel costs and improving operational efficiency.
