Godrej Consumer Products opens first integrated greenfield plant in Tamil Nadu

Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) has inaugurated its first integrated greenfield manufacturing facility in Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu. The state-of-the-art plant, built with an investment of ₹515 crore, was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, alongside Godrej Industries Group Chairperson Nadir Godrej and GCPL MD & CEO Sudhir Sitapati. The first production run saw the rollout of the Cinthol Original soap bar.

The facility, spanning 27 acres, was completed in a record 13 months and is set to provide employment to over 1,000 direct and indirect employees, with a strong focus on diversity and inclusion. Around 50% of the workforce will be women, with 5% representation from LGBTQIA+ and persons with disabilities. “This facility reflects our commitment to sustainable growth while fostering inclusivity,” said Nadir Godrej. The factory will produce key brands like Cinthol, Godrej No.1, GoodKnight, and Godrej Aer, with a projected turnover of ₹1,500 crore once fully operational. GCPL is integrating Industry 4.0 technologies, including AI and IoT, to enhance efficiency.

The launch of this facility is expected to benefit major markets like Guwahati by ensuring a steady supply of Godrej’s popular consumer products. With improved production capabilities, retailers in the Northeast can anticipate faster stock replenishments and wider product availability, strengthening the company’s market presence in the region. Tamil Nadu’s government lauded the investment, emphasizing its role in boosting industrial growth and employment. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin stated, “This facility aligns with our vision of innovation, job creation, and inclusivity.”
