Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL) is set to enhance the oil palm industry in Tripura with the establishment of a new Oil Palm Processing Mill and an advanced Research & Development (R&D) center. The facilities, located in Dhalai district, will significantly impact the local agricultural landscape. The company also plans to expand its nursery capacity from 300,000 to 500,000 plants annually.
The announcement was made during a groundbreaking ceremony attended by Tripura’s Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Dr. Harikrishna Kulaveerasingam, Head of R&D at SD Guthrie Plantations, Malaysia. The R&D center will focus on developing high-yield, climate-appropriate oil palm seeds.
Godrej Agrovet’s new initiative aligns with the National Mission on Edible Oil – Oil Palm (NMEO-OP), aiming to cultivate 7,000 hectares in Tripura. The company will also launch “Samadhan,” a comprehensive support center for oil palm farmers, which will facilitate local produce sales and provide critical farming support. In Guwahati, the expansion of oil palm cultivation and processing is anticipated to bring economic benefits by increasing local job opportunities and supporting the broader northeastern market. The new developments are expected to enhance the availability of locally produced oil palm products and potentially stabilize prices in the regional market.
