The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), under the leadership of APCC President Gaurav Gogoi, began the second stage of its “Xomoy Poribortonor” Yatra in Golaghat. Several places in the Golaghat district were visited by the yatra, including Changkhat, Dayang, Usha-Garanga, Bhelouguri, Merapani, and other places. The yatra started in Golaghat town with the goal of defending the rights of the people of Assam. Gogoi spoke at public meetings, engaged with locals, and heard their complaints and worries at each trip. Gogoi recounted the 15 years of Congress rule in Assam in his remarks.
He noted that the public gave the BJP a chance to form the government in 2016 and 2021 in the hopes of change under Sarkar’s “double engine,” which would put the BJP in control of both the federal government and the states. However, he claimed that the truth has been the opposite: only those who came to power, together with their families, children, and relatives, have profited, while local issues have remained unaddressed. He claimed that after arriving in Guwahati and Delhi, persons in positions of power forgot about locations like Golaghat.
Gaurav Gogoi criticised Assam government schemes such as Basundhara and Orunodoi, alleging poor land patta distribution and misuse of welfare for political gain. He claimed beneficiaries, especially women receiving ₹1,250 under Orunodoi, are pressured to attend BJP events. Contrasting this with the tenure of Tarun Gogoi, he said earlier schemes empowered women without political conditions. He promised that if Congress forms the government in 2026, all schemes will continue without threats and benefits will be distributed fairly.
