Gauhati University to rename Performing Arts Centre in honour of Zubeen Garg

Gauhati University has announced that its Centre for Performing Arts and Culture would be renamed in honor of the late vocalist and cultural treasure Zubeen Garg. The move is one of four proposals approved to honor the singer’s incomparable contributions to music and culture, according to the university’s confirmation of the decision. A statue of Zubeen Garg will be erected in front of the center as part of the homage, acting as an inspiration to future generations.

Additionally, the institution intends to release a coffee table book that includes creative highlights and biographical accounts of Garg’s artistic career. The varsity will add a new competition category called “Zubeen’s Songs” to its inter-college youth festival in an effort to further encourage youthful talent. This will allow aspiring singers to compete and preserve his compositions. On September 19, Zubeen Garg, a youth idol and Assamese voice, tragically died in Singapore. A rush of tributes from all around Assam and beyond has been prompted by the irreparable gap his death has left in the state’s cultural scene.
