Gauhati High Court suspends Sonitpur Judge over bribery allegations

The Gauhati High Court has suspended Ranju Medhi, the Additional District and Sessions Judge of Sonitpur, following allegations of bribery. The suspension order, issued on September 2, takes immediate effect, pending departmental proceedings.

Judge Medhi, who also serves as the Special Judge of the POCSO court in Sonitpur, is required to remain stationed in Sonitpur’s headquarters, Tezpur, throughout the suspension period. The High Court’s order explicitly prohibits Medhi from leaving the station without prior permission.

During the suspension, the responsibilities of the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Sonitpur, Tezpur, will be managed by the Sonitpur District & Sessions Judge as per the High Court’s directive.
