The G20 Summit under India’s Presidency is about to begin on Saturday. Heads of State of G20 member countries, invitee countries and representatives of international organisations have already begun to arrive, with Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu being the first one to arrive.
During India’s G20 Presidency, the government’s vision has been to showcase the country’s rich heritage, culture, and diversity. This has been witnessed at every meeting of the G20, leading up to the Summit, wherein delegations were taken to local cultural sites and served regional delicacies. Additionally, to show India’s cultural diversity, G20 meetings were organised across he breadth of the country, covering every region.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva was welcomed to India by traditional folk dancers, who grooved to the beats of Sambalpuri. Minister of Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan, tweeted that Georgieva was “difficult to resist #Sambalpuri beats.” UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murthy were welcomed by Bihu dancers, while Ministers of Consumer Affairs Food & Public Distribution and Environment, Forest & Climate Change Ashwini Kumar Choubey received them.
