From fear to freedom: Cancer survivor’s story resonates in North 24 Parganas homes

In many homes across North 24 Parganas, conversations around cancer are filled with fear, financial stress and uncertainty. The story of RatnaChatterjee, a 76-year-old esophageal cancer survivor from Kolkata, is now being quietly shared among families as a message of strength and independence.

Diagnosed in 2006, Chatterjee recalls how eating even a spoon of rice became painful. Initial treatments failed, and the diagnosis of advanced cancer left her emotionally shattered. A widow living alone, she feared becoming dependent more than the disease itself.

Her life changed after visiting D.S. Research Centre in Varanasi, where she began Ayurvedic-based nutrient energy treatment. She says the approach focused on restoring strength rather than weakening the body. Over time, her scans showed steady improvement, and she returned to normal eating and daily activities.

Today, Chatterjee lives independently, travels alone, shops at local markets, and cooks her own meals. Her experience is especially meaningful for elderly residents in North 24 Parganas towns like Habra, Bongaon and Dum Dum.
