Fourth arrest in Siliguri SIM box case, investigation reveals links to Bangladesh

Siliguri, June 28: The Detective Department (DD) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police has detained Abdul Qadir (39), resident of Jalpaiguri, in the fourth arrest in the SIM box case. Recent developments have further revealed the cross-border links of the case, pointing towards links with Bangladesh.

The matter first came to light on May 16 when the Special Operations Group (SOG) unearthed a SIM box operation under the guise of a mobile shop in Siliguri. Acting on intelligence regarding criminal activities related to SIM boxes, police raided a mobile shop in Jyotiyakali. They recovered three SIM boxes with various illegal materials and caught the shop owner Shabbir Ali, who was later taken into custody.

Considering the seriousness of the case, the investigation was transferred to DD. Within a week, DD caught two SIM card suppliers, Dayal Burman and Raju Roy, from different locations. Both the men were produced in the Jalpaiguri court and taken on remand, where further interrogation revealed that the SIM box operation was linked to Bangladesh.

Deepening its investigation, DD found that Abdul Qadir had installed SIM boxes from Bangladesh in Shabbir Ali’s shop. Following this clue, DD starts searching for Abdul Qadir.

On Thursday, acting on a tip-off, the DD conducted an operation in Jalpaiguri and successfully arrested Abdul Qadir. He was brought to Siliguri and produced in Jalpaiguri court on Friday. DD continues to investigate the intricate details of the case.
