Jennifer Coffindaffer cites inconsistencies as search for missing Arizona grandmother enters third week
The mysterious disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie has taken a new turn as a former federal investigator publicly cast doubt on the theory that her case was the result of a burglary gone wrong. As the search stretches into its third week, debate continues both online and within the community over what may have happened. Jennifer Coffindaffer, a retired agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, questioned the burglary narrative in a detailed post on social media platform X. She argued that several elements surrounding the case do not align with patterns typically seen in break-ins.
“Was this your garden-variety burglary that just went wrong? I don’t think so,” Coffindaffer wrote, pointing to what she described as unusual circumstances. Among them were the presence of a person near the home carrying a full backpack, the property being set back from the street with surveillance cameras, and the timing of the incident. She noted that most burglaries occur during daytime hours rather than late at night.
Coffindaffer also emphasized that no property appeared to have been stolen. “Burglars don’t steal 84-year-old grandmothers. They steal things,” she stated, suggesting that the absence of missing valuables weakens the burglary theory.
Authorities have not confirmed Coffindaffer’s assertions, and investigators have yet to publicly disclose a definitive motive. The investigation remains active.
The case has sparked intense discussion online, with some commenters alleging family involvement and others dismissing that speculation. Viral posts have drawn attention to Guthrie’s daughter, Annie Guthrie, and son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, who were reportedly among the last to see her. However, Chris Nanos, sheriff of Pima County, has stated that no family members are considered suspects at this time.
According to officials, Cioni dropped Guthrie home after dinner on the evening she disappeared. Her family reported her missing on February 1.
As search efforts continue, law enforcement authorities are urging the public to rely on verified information and submit credible tips that may assist in locating Guthrie. The case remains under active investigation.
