Forest Fire Breaks Out in Namnang, Gangtok; Swift Action Brings Blaze Under Control

A forest fire broke out in the Namnang area of Gangtok on Sunday afternoon, triggering concern among residents in the locality. The incident was reported at around 4:00 PM, following which the authorities moved in quickly to control the situation. According to officials, the Forest Department’s Quick Response Team (QRT), Gangtok, immediately reached the spot after receiving information about the fire. The QRT worked in close coordination with the Fire Department, Gangtok, to bring the fire under control.

The teams carried out joint efforts to stop the flames from spreading further into the surrounding forest area. The officials said the situation was brought under control by around 5:30 PM on the same day. The quick action of the response teams is being seen as an important factor in preventing further damage to the forest and nearby areas. The coordinated work on the ground ensured that the fire did not spread to residential zones or sensitive locations.

No casualties were reported in the incident. There were also no reports of major property damage. The authorities said that the teams remained alert until the situation was fully stabilised.
