On February 20 Recently Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma actually informed the state assembly that a veterinary hospital will be set up at Upper Shillong. Sangma actually said in the assembly that they have already sent a proposal of Rs 30 crore under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DeVINE) making everything clear. Earlier, leader of opposition Ronnie V Lyngdoh has requested the minister in-charge animal husbandry & veterinary AL Hek to take up with the prime minister for setting up veterinary hospitals in the state as he is also a senior BJP leader from Meghalaya.
Actually he said that the purpose of the government to help the farmers by distribution of piglets will be defeated if measures are not taken to prevent deaths of pigs in the state. In fact Congress legislator from Mawhati Charles Marngar has requested the state government to consider giving compensation to farmers due to the death of pigs in the state. In reality to this, Hek said that no compensation is being provided to the farmers since they can claim insurance at Rs 4,000 per pig.
