In a significant step towards ensuring the integrity of the upcoming electoral process, the first level of randomisation of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units was successfully conducted at the Office of the District Commissioner, Barpeta on Wednesday.
The exercise was conducted under the supervision of the District Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Rohan Kumar Jha, who reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections in a systematic and time-bound manner.
The randomisation exercise was carried out in the presence of Additional District Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners, and representatives of recognised national and regional political parties, in keeping with established guidelines to ensure transparency and accountability.
The use of robust technological procedures for the random allocation of EVMs and VVPATs underscores the district administration’s efforts to ensure fairness and integrity in the deployment of polling equipment for the ensuing electoral process.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has appointed IRS officer Meregu Suresh as Expenditure Observer, and IPS officer Annes Ahmed Ansari as Police Observer for Barpeta Election District.
Members of the public may meet the Observers between 11am and 12 noon at the New Circuit House building, located near the Office of the District Commissioner, Barpeta, to submit any election-related complaints or grievances.
