A late-night firing incident created panic in South Hafani village under Assam’s South Karimganj constituency after miscreants allegedly opened fire during a dispute related to a mobile phone theft. Two people were seriously injured in the incident, police said.
According to initial reports, several rounds of gunfire were heard, disturbing the otherwise calm area and triggering an immediate police response. Investigators recovered multiple empty cartridges from the spot, indicating the intensity of the firing.
One of the injured has been identified as Anowar Hussain, while the identity of the second victim is yet to be confirmed. Both were rushed to a medical facility, and their condition is reported to be critical.
The exact motive behind the attack is still under investigation. Senior Superintendent of Police Leena Doley visited the scene soon after the incident and assessed the situation. Preliminary findings suggest that two pistols may have been used in the firing.
Police have tightened security in the area and launched a detailed investigation to identify and arrest those responsible.
