The charred body of a woman from Bangladesh was found inside a guest residence in the city’s Free School Street vicinity on Saturday after a fireplace broke out in the building, police said.
The blaze erupted around 4 am due to a brief circuit, following which three furnace tenders had been pressed into service, they said.
Fire brigade personnel recovered the body of the female (63) in a charred country from the building, a police officer said.
The girl used to be taken to SSKM hospital, the place she was declared brought-dead, he said.
Another man from the state’s Murshidabad district, who acquired burn injuries in the incident, used to be discharged after treatment.
Eleven rooms of the guest house had been broken in the fire, the officer added.
