Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, spouse of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the Crime Branch in Guwahati against Congress leader Pawan Khera, accusing him of making “baseless” claims about her. The police have commenced a case following her complaint. During a press conference in New Delhi, Khera alleged that Riniki possesses passports from three nations—UAE, Egypt, and Antigua and Barbuda—and has undisclosed businesses and assets in the UAE and the United States, which were not included in her husband’s election affidavit. In response, Riniki described these allegations as “unfounded,” asserting that the documents presented by Khera were fabricated using AI and Photoshop. She characterized the situation as a serious infringement of her personal rights, claiming that her targeting stems from her being a vulnerable figure. Riniki expressed disappointment at the lack of due diligence from a national party spokesperson, emphasizing her intent to let legal processes address the matter.
