The Reserve Bank of India is observing Financial Literacy Week (FLW) 2026 from February 9-13, 2026, as part of its annual initiative to promote awareness on key financial matters among the public through focused campaigns.
The week was inaugurated by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra in Mumbai today, under the theme “KYC – Your First Step to Safe Banking,” which highlights the importance of Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance as the foundation for safe, secure and responsible banking practices.
In line with the national observance, the RBI Guwahati Regional Office has commenced a series of awareness programmes and outreach activities across Assam in collaboration with banks and other stakeholders to educate citizens on various aspects of KYC and to strengthen financial awareness at the grassroots level.
These initiatives build upon the recent countrywide Gram Panchayat-level campaigns undertaken for the saturation of Financial Inclusion (FI) schemes, wherein re-KYC of bank accounts was carried out to facilitate uninterrupted account operations. RBI Guwahati actively participated in these initiatives within its jurisdiction to enable eligible account holders to complete their KYC re-enrolment. During FLW 2026, the focus will be on reinforcing the message that while KYC is an essential regulatory requirement, it is also a simple process supported by multiple safe and convenient modes of compliance. The outreach programmes will familiarise the public with facilities such as Central KYC (CKYC), encourage timely updating of KYC details to avoid disruption in banking services, and promote awareness of secure banking practices.
The campaign will also emphasise the need for heightened vigilance against fraudulent calls, messages and links related to KYC updation that may lead to financial loss. In addition, efforts will be made to sensitise the public about the risks and serious legal and financial consequences of becoming money mules due to inducements or misinformation.
