Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana has faced disciplinary action from the ICC following the team’s Women’s Asia Cup clash against India in Dubai. She has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
The ICC found Fatima in breach of Article 2.5, which covers gestures, actions or language directed at a dismissed batter that could be considered disparaging or capable of provoking an aggressive response.
The incident happened in the second over of India’s innings after Fatima dismissed opener Shafali Verma. The Pakistan captain then made a gesture towards the pavilion, which resulted in the charge being brought against her.
One demerit point has also been added to Fatima’s record. Since this was her second offence in a 24-month period, her total has now reached two demerit points. Her first demerit point was recorded during Pakistan’s first T20I against Ireland in Dublin on August 6, 2025.
Fatima admitted to the breach and accepted the proposed sanction from Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees. As a result, the matter did not require a formal hearing.
On-field umpires Nimali Perera and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Rabab Ahsan were responsible for levelling the charge.
For Level 1 violations, the ICC Code of Conduct allows penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 per cent of the player’s match fee, as well as one or two demerit points.
