Fast-Track Court Sought for Trial of Zubeen Garg Death Case

The Lawyers’ Association Guwahati (LAG) today demanded a fast-track court for expeditious trial of Zubeen Garg death case. The trial of the case began at the Kamrup (Metro) district and sessions court last month.General secretary of LAG Apurba Kumar Sarma said that a dedicated fast-track court needs to be set up for day-to-day hearingĀ of to case for speedy delivery of justice. He further said that instead of assigning the case to only one public prosecutor, a team of lawyers should be appointed by the government to represent the prosecution side to ensure that the guilty can’t escape punishment under any circumstances.”It is not possible for a single public prosecutor to thoroughly study the 12,000-page chargesheet submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in this case,” Sarma said.

He rued the fact that the government hasn’t provided even a laptop computer to the public prosecutor to study the voluminous chargesheet.
Garg had gone to attend the North East India Festival in Singapore, where he died under mysterious circumstances while swimming in the sea on September 19, 2025.The chief organiser of the festival Shyamkanu Mahanta, Garg’s secretary Siddhartha Sharma, his bandmates Shekharjyoti Goswami and singer Amritprava Mahanta, his cousin Sandipan Garg, and the singer’s two personal security officers Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya have been named in the chargesheet.
