Fast-Track Court Decision: Zubeen Garg’s Wife Hails Cabinet Move

The State Cabinet’s decision to establish a fast-track court to speed up the trial in the singer’s death case has been applauded by Zubeen Garg’s widow, Garima. She said she hoped it would speed up the trial and the administration of justice. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presided over a Cabinet meeting late on Thursday night that resolved to create a special court to expedite the case’s trial. After the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Sarma stated, “The State Cabinet has approved a proposal for the creation of an exclusive/dedicated Sessions Court in accordance with Section 346(1) BNSS, 2023 for the day-to-day trial of the case relating to Zubeen Garg’s death, taking into consideration the sensitivity of the matter and its potential implications for public order and governance credibility.”

In order to avoid the trial taking years, Garg’s family has been pleading with the government to establish a fast-track court for daily hearings of the case. According to Sarma, the government will ask the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court to establish the fast-track court. “We hope that the government’s decision to establish the fast-track court will help in taking the trial in the right direction and give justice to Zubeen Garg at the shortest possible time as wished by our family and crores of his fans,” Garima said.
