The Office of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has responded firmly to media reports suggesting an internal conflict within the Assam BJP linked to a purported letter from Sonowal to the party’s National President. This letter, which allegedly calls for leadership change in Assam and makes accusations against current Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been declared entirely fake, fabricated, and forged. It was produced on a counterfeit official letterhead featuring a forged signature of Sonowal.
The dissemination of this fraudulent document constitutes serious criminal offenses including forgery, impersonation, and misuse of government identity, likely aimed at spreading misinformation to tarnish a constitutional authority’s reputation. An FIR has been filed at the Parliament Street Police Station in New Delhi, and authorities have been urged to prioritize the investigation and impose strict legal action against the perpetrators.
Sonowal’s office categorically rejected the claims in these circulated reports, asserting there is no veracity to the allegations of internal discord or any false correspondence attributed to him. The office further advised the public and the media to refrain from relying on or further disseminating such unverified and deceptive materials, emphasizing the importance of consulting only official and authorized sources for accurate information.
