Explosion in Ludhiana court leaves one dead, six injured

A man was killed and five others injured in a blast at the district courts complex here on Thursday.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi said no one shall be allowed to disturb the hard earned peace of Punjab.

He has announced free treatment for all five persons injured in a blast that took place in gents toilet on second floor of District Courts Complex.

The blast reportedly took place at 12:22 pm inside a bathroom on the second floor of the building. The explosion damaged the walls of the bathroom and ripped through a section of the building, besides shattering glass in nearby rooms. The district court was crowded and functioning when the explosion took place.

In visuals, injured people were carried out of the building and police were trying to remove people from the complex. Two of the injured people are women and three men.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi blamed “anti-national”forces for trying to disturb the peace in the state. “As Punjab elections are approaching, some anti-national and anti-Punjab forces are trying to disturb peace. First, there was an attempt of sacrilege at Golden Temple in which they failed. Now, this blast. We are not going to spare culprits,” he said.

Speaking on the Ludhiana blast incident, Punjab DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyaya said, “We cannot comment on anything. Only the experts can tell the kind of explosives used, but the district, state, and central forensics are on it. Every crowded place is on alert, the public should also be careful.”
