During a cabinet press meeting, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma said that his government had lost many cases in lower courts and there was no analysis of them as well as review of the performance of government lawyers.
On Thursday, the government decided to form a ‘Directorate of Prosecution and staff public prosecutors with a separate cadre.
“This will make them civil servants. They will be paid, promoted and transferred like other government employees,” Sarma said.
To bring in these changes, the Cabinet has approved an amendment to the Criminal Procedure Code and it will be tabled in the upcoming Assembly session starting on December 20.
