Dhubri MP files FIR over de*th threats on Facebook

Assam MP Rakibul Hussain has filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Dhubri Sadar Police Station after receiving multiple death threats on Facebook. The Dhubri Member of Parliament alleged that a social media user had made repeated threats against his life, escalating concerns over online harassment and safety of public figures.

According to the complaint filed on Monday, a Facebook user identified as Ansar Ali, a resident of Sunakhuli village in Dhubri district, allegedly issued violent threats against Hussain during live sessions on the platform. The first instance occurred on January 4, 2025, when Ali allegedly commented in Assamese, threatening to shoot and kill the MP, leaving his body on the road for stray dogs.

The situation worsened on March 16, 2025, when Ali allegedly issued another direct threat, warning Hussain that he had “escaped” once but would not be spared this time. In another chilling comment, Ali reportedly wrote, “You will be attacked again. This time we will shoot you. BJP has given us permission to murder you. This time you will die.”

Hussain, a prominent political leader from Dhubri, has urged the police to act swiftly and investigate whether the threats are part of a larger conspiracy. He has also submitted screenshots of the threats as evidence. Dhubri Sadar Police Station has acknowledged receipt of the complaint and is expected to initiate an investigation.c
